So here we are. It’s a new year and we are feeling on top of the world. London is our new home. It’s difficult to explain just how fortunate we feel to be living this life. I know it seems cliche, but to us this city is beating with opportunities and energy; its giving us the chance to live out a few dreams regardless if they fail or succeed.

It also gives us the opportunity to explore a part of the world that we definitely neglected last year. With Ryanair at our fingertips and Europe on the doorstep, many many adventures are inevitable (unless the failing of dreams gets a little too serious).

My curiosity of the world started somewhere within the pages of my grandmas travel journals. Tales from Egypt in the 70’s, Jerusalem and Petra, China after Mao’s death, maiden journeys across the Atlantic and Europe in all its glory. Her cabinets are full of treasures from all across the globe; Canopic jars, Turkish rugs, french armoires, Venetian glass and silver jewellery from Jordan. As a kid, I was enchanted. Actually, I still am. Her house is one of my favourite places on this planet. We would spend hours and hours talking over books and photos, planning an adventure together. And the first adventure just so happened to begin in Rome, almost 10 years ago.

It was with absolute delight, then, that I could relive and share my love for this city with Daniel. I still remember the colours and the streets, the light and the musical language. To experience it all again with him beside me was magic.

I’ll let the photos do most of the talking, but you can safely assume that we packed as much as we could into 2 and a half days, including the Vatican museums, St Peters, the Ara Pacis, Piazza Navona, several churches full of Carravaggio and Michelangelo works, the Pantheon, the Forum and the Colosseum. Pizza was consumed for just about every meal, accompanied by a gelato and Aperol - just as it should be.

Rome will always have a special place in my heart; it’s where it all began. I am so lucky to have you Mumma. Those Aperol’s were for you.
